Acupuncture

Acupuncture

Thousands of years ago it was discovered by East Asian practitioners that the body can form disharmonies caused by physical and mental stress. This imbalance disrupts the movement of the body's vital energy, or “chi”, along the meridian pathways, the channels thought to carry the body’s flow of energy. Acupuncture restores the smooth flow of chi. The insertion and manipulation of needles at specific points on the body allows your body to its natural balance and promote its ability to heal itself. If you are a first-time patient, you may be concerned that the needles used will feel like hypodermic injections. Please be assured that they do not. Acupuncture uses hair-thin, flexible, sterile and disposable needles. There is little to no sensation when your therapist inserts them. Gently stimulation of the needles often produces a unique sensation that Oriental medicine calls de chi. Patients often describe de chi as a heavy, spreading, and/or traveling feeling. Most patients find acupuncture sensations deeply satisfying. In fact, it’s not uncommon for patients to fall asleep during a session. When your acupuncture treatment is complete you are almost certain to feel more mentally and physically relaxed than you have in some time.

The benefits of acupuncture are cumulative. You will need to receive a series of treatment for maximum benefit. Acute conditions may require as many as 1-to-3 treatments, although your body will often begin to respond after the first few. Chronic conditions may require a longer treatment period, depending on the type, severity, and duration of your condition. Preventative and general well-being treatments may also be scheduled on an as-needed basis.

Tui Na Massage

Tui Na Massage

Tui Na is a Chinese hands-on treatment that uses Taoist principles to bring the eight principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) into balance. Your practitioner will manipulate the areas between each of your body’s joints, known as the eight gates, to open the body's defensive (wei) chi and generate energy in the meridians and the muscles. They can then use range-of-motion, traction, and massage, along with stimulation of acupressure points. These techniques treat both acute and chronic musculoskeletal conditions, as well as many non-musculoskeletal conditions.

Herbal Medicine

Herbal Medicine

Herbal medicine is often used in combination with acupuncture to produce additional therapeutic benefits. Although many cultures have traditions of herbal remedies, the variety and sophistication of Chinese herbal medicine is unrivaled. The history of Chinese herbal medicine spans several thousand years. Even today, Chinese herbs are used for everything from common cold to post cancer treatments.

There are thousands of herbs used in Chinese herbal medicine, with about 300 in most common use. A well trained herbalist can help you by prescribing formulas specific to your condition.

Cosmetic Acupuncture

Cosmetic Acupuncture

Although acupuncture is most commonly used to treat pain and disease, it also widely used as a beauty and cosmetic treatment. In fact, facial cosmetic acupuncture and rejuvenation treatments date back some 800 years to the Sun dynasty, where their use was once limited to nobleman’s wives and mistresses.

Facial acupuncture strengthens the muscles of the facial bone, or “Mimic Muscles.” As people age these muscles lose elasticity and sag in the direction of gravity to produce wrinkles. Acupuncture increases the blood flow and revives the elasticity in your mimic muscles, as well as promoting rejuvenation of your facial skin.

Facial acupuncture uses a mix of acupuncture and herbal medicine to promote both outer appearance and inner health. The wrinkles and fine lines that appear on your face are signs that there are imbalances within your body. We first identify the imbalances that cause aging and skin imperfections by use of Traditional Chinese Medicine methods ofpulse, tongue and face examination. Then we plan and carry-out an individual treatment plan centered on your particular needs. Once sagging muscles around the cheeks or eyeshave been revived and strengthened they will lift naturally.
