Q: What are the benefits of acupuncture?
Although acupuncture is often used to control pain, a well-trained practitioner can employ it as an independent treatment, or in support of other medical or surgical care.

The World Health Organization (WHO) recognizes acupuncture as effective in the treatment of a wide range of medical problems that include:

  • Digestive disorders such as gastritis and hyperacidity, spastic colon, constipation, and diarrhea
  • Respiratory disorders such as sinusitis, sore throat, bronchitis, asthma, and recurrent chest infections
  • Neurological and muscular disorders such as headaches, facial tics, neck pain, rib neuritis, frozen shoulder, tennis elbow, various forms of tendonitis, low back pain, sciatica, and osteoarthritis
  • Urinary, menstrual, and reproductive problems

Acupuncture is particularly useful in resolving physical problems related to tension, stress, and emotional conditions

Q: How does acupuncture work?
Acupuncture encourages the body to improve its functions and heal itself. It is performed by inserting needles into specific acupuncture points in your body. These needles are then manipulated manually, or used in conjunction with the application of heat or mild electrical stimulation. Acupuncture promotes circulation and reduces pain by releasing endorphins and other naturally occurring hormones produced in the body.

Q: Is acupuncture safe?
Acupuncture is considered safe when practiced by a licensed acupuncturist. It is a minimally-invasive treatment that uses hair-thin needles to stimulate the body’s own pain reduction system. The use of disposable acupuncture needles eliminates the possibility of cross-contamination and ensures maximum safety for all our patients.

Q: How long is each treatment?
Your initial treatment will last approximately an hour-and-a-half. Subsequent treatment sessions will typically take 45 minutes to an hour.

Q: How should I prepare prior to each visit?
You should be well hydrated before and after each session. We recommend that our patients don't come in on an empty stomach to avoid feeling nauseous or dizziness during the treatment.

Q: What should I expect during an acupuncture treatment?
After we evaluate your current symptoms and form a treatment plan, you will be instructed to lay on the treatment table. A preparation will follow, and the acupuncture needles will be placed on your body. Depending on your diagnosis, the conjunction of electro stimulation and/or heat therapy may be used to increase the efficacy of the treatment.

Q: What should I do after each acupuncture treatment?
As suggested before, you should stay hydrated. You should also get plenty of rest and refrain from strenuous exercise for 24-to-48 hours.

Q: How many treatments will I need?
This depends entirely on your condition. Acute problems such as musculoskeletal sprains or common colds are usually resolved within one-to-three visits. Chronic conditions may require more subsequent treatments, which ultimately depends on the nature, severity, and duration of your current symptoms. In the latter, it may take up to four-to-six visits before you begin to see the results.

Q: Do you accept insurance?
Yes, we honor a wide range of insurance plans. We can verify your insurance coverage for you prior to your initial visit. We are both in- and out-of-network for many carriers.
